Quartz

Quartz countertops differ from granite and marble countertops in one significant way: quartz is an engineered product while the other two are solid stone. The quartz is ground into small particles and then mixed with a polyester resin binder to hold it together and with pigment to give it richer color. Small particles of glass or reflective metallic flakes are added to some designs to achieve a unique look. The result is an attractive, extremely strong slab that is similar in appearance to solid stone and usually more affordable.

Laminate

Laminate countertops remain a very popular option because they are affordable and come in the widest possible range of colors and patterns. Laminate countertops contain a hard particle board core with layers of plastic laminate bonded over the top of it. The plastic laminate is tough and fairly durable. Laminates come in the widest variety of colors and patterns of any type of countertop. Many are made to mimic the look of more expensive surfaces like marble or granite.

Wood & Butcherblock

Butcherblock countertops and other wood countertops bring warmth to a room and remain a popular choice in kitchens especially, though some woods are used in bathroom countertops too. They are excellent for food preparation and are sometimes used in the kitchen in conjunction with other surfaces such as quartz, granite and laminate.  When considering butcherblock many environment conscious buyers will look at green or eco-friendly countertops like reclaimed wood.
